This book is dedicated to my brother Peter William Moore who passed away on 26th July 1963 aged 25 years. He was a drover in the Bourke district. Peter was very interested in bush remedies and loved the bush.

About This Book

This book has been compiled in a way which can easily be followed. It is written simply and in a straight-forward manner, which is the way of the bush, where the author spent the first forty years of his life.

Most of the items in this book are old bush remedies. They have been handed down by the early Australians who pioneered the "back country", where there were very few doctors, if any. However, because laughter is also a good remedy, there are a few yarns in this book as well.

In the early days, quite a few of these remedies were used by doctors and bush nurses. Some of today's doctors still believe in many of these bush remedies.

The author Jack Moore was himself a drover off the great Australian outback land. Sample Remedies

Burns
Apply pure honey to burn. Do not wrap. Honey will seal the burn from bacteria. It also has Vitamin E in it.

Nappy Rash
Cornflour can be sprinkled on like talcum powder.

Diarrhoea
Mix two tablespoons of cornflour in a glass of water, drink, then relax.

Rough Road
While pulling a caravan behind my truck between Burketown and the coast, the road was very corrugated. I was in first gear for four miles. Looking up I could see a swagman walking towards me. I pulled him up and asked him what the road ahead was like. He said: "Very rough." "How rough is it?" I asked. "Well boy," he replied, "it is so rough I lost the lid off my billycan."
